It is a pleasure for our organization and for AIESEC International to see how the Alumni
Network is finding new ways of organizing itself and cooperating with the Local Committees and
Member Committees to make sure that AIESEC reaches more young people around the world.
During our term, we will be supporting MCs to strengthen the network between Alumni and
Members through MyAIESEC.net as well as profiling the success of 60 years of activating leadership.
We wanted to share with you something that all of us are very proud of:
AIESEC has
realized 1651 internships globally in last 2 months which represents a
growth of over 35% in comparison to last year’s performance in the same
period.
Congratulations to the network! Total exchange performance for term
2007/2008 has been reached.

Jiro Hagi, Former Japanese Ambassador to Oman, Hall of Fame 2007
“His Excellency Hagi”, is a title that is expressed with admiration and pride by members
and alumni of AIESEC Japan. Jiro Hagi is one of the founding members of AIESEC Japan, and from the
start has been putting emphasis on sustainability and continuity. Exchange activity quickly rose to
significant levels during his time in AIESEC, and to ensure the needed sustainability, Jiro and his
group created the first Board of Directors and the Board of Advisors with members from academic
circles and business respectively. Jiro also took full advantage of the international network with
a trip to West Germany and heavy involvement in AIESEC in Taiwan during his internship and his work
to consolidate AIESEC in Korea.
Surely it was during these international experiences when Jiro discovered his passion
for the public sector and the diplomatic connections between countries. He was the first alumnus of
AIESEC in Japan to become a public service official, and as such served as Director General of the
Defense Facilities Administration Agency and as Deputy General Manager of PKO to Cambodia, where he
contributed to peace keeping initiatives and as Japanese Ambassador to Oman.
Ensuring the continued sustainability of AIESEC in Japan became an important activity in
Jiro’s life and he contributes significantly as member of the National Board of Advisors. Just
before his appointment to Oman, Jiro revitalized alumni activities as the president of the AIESEC
Japan Alumni Association, making sure that also these activities added to the sustainability of
AIESEC itself.
His Excellency strives to build connections that matter and continue to matter: he recently
attended a reunion with old AIESEC friends in Taiwan, and puts the weight of his authority behind
AIESEC in Japan to give it the deserved recognition in the private and public sectors.
Jiro is just one of 800,000 AIESEC alumni from 60 years of AIESEC’s history.
