How ASK Program works?A group of 20 local students will be selected in each one of the participant High Schools (in our three local committees) to be trained as peer educators in HIV/AIDS.
International young specialists will be acting as facilitators and guides during the process, also bringing best case practices of peer education in HIV/AIDS from their countries of origin, expanding the perspective of the local students and increasing their international exposure and mindsets.
During the 16 weeks of the program, the local teenagers will have the opportunity to become peer educators and develop the necessary skills to perform this role effectively.
At the end of the program a main event will be held at an open space (sport court) in which teenagers will be invited to interact with the local peer educators. The aim is to offer a platform to connect and also to provide the opportunity for the peer educators to practice the knowledge they have gained through out their involvement in ASK Program. This event aims to put together a minimum of 250 teenagers and it is called ‘Come and ASK!’.
Uniqueness of the Program:
ü International Exposure: The presence of the international young specialists is bringing a whole new dimension to the process of creation of young peer educators. The team will be formed by young people from four different nationalities and will allow learning from other countries’ experiences and initiatives around HIV/AIDS.
ü Practice of knowledge: At ‘Come and ASK!’ day the local peer educators will have the opportunity to put in practices the skills developed and run activities and exercises for other teenagers from the local communities. A massive event that also aims to increase awareness around the pandemic.
This is a program for young people completely run and driven by young people. Few examples of such programs exist
AIESEC Cameroon would like to thank our sponsors for the ASK program. MTN Cameroon and Standard Chartered Bank have shown an active interest in helping to fight HIV/Aids in their communities. We would like show our appreciation for their generous support and all that they have done for us to make this project a success!
