AIESEC TodayDepending on how many years have passed, since you left AIESEC, you will find that AIESEC as a global organization and also AIESEC in Uganda have highly evolved.Without using to much jargon, we wish to show you AIESECs competitive edge amongst many other organizations and present some of the recent activities we engaged in. Our vision as AIESECers “Peace and Fulfilment of Humankinds’s Potential” remains the same but as AIESEC we have found a unique Way of achieving what we envision. The main contribution of AIESEC is development of the individual student who goes through an AIESEC Experience while in university. After a short phase of introduction to AIESEC every member has to join a team to get first work experience. The two key elements are the international exchange experience (“Work Abroad”) and a leadership role (“Manage a team”), which every member is encouraged to take up. In 2005 the global organization set out to clarify our contribution to society and define measures of success to our activities. Just recently we have achieved the AIESEC 2010 mid-term ambition and can proudly announce that over 10,000 members got to go on an international internship and a similar amount completed a leadership role, either on local, national or international level in the last 12 months! AIESEC in Africa revolutionized its doings through the introduction of “Projects based on Exchange” in the mid 2000s. The aim was to achieve even higher direct societal impact – while at the same time increasing exchange experiences – both for Africans and for Internationals to experience the continent. Since then the “Empowering Africa Program” has been a unique way of educating different communities around various topics including HIV, IT, Tourism, Entrepreneurship or Languages and has at the same time provided team work experiences for thousands of AIESEC members and around 1,000 volunteering opportunities on the continent! AIESEC in Uganda TodayAIESEC in Uganda today is a vibrant network of 8 University Chapters and a highly strategic National Team. AIESEC in Uganda today consists of 250 members, an average of 30 interns working in the country and a growing number of involved partners and alumni. In 2010 at least 120 international students came to Uganda and a historic number of 60 members of AIESEC in Uganda went for an internship abroad – we leverage highly on our partner countries in the East African Region! We consciously design and carry out events that are relevant to bridging the university to the corporate world and are solutions in the current economic situation. Career Fair, educational Events at the universities and relevant publications like the Graduate Employer of Choice Survey have found the attraction of the media and our corporate and non-corporate partners. Also within the AIESEC network Uganda is well branded. We are a first-choice exchange destination but more importantly is Uganda’s talent recognized and sought after – currently former Ugandan leaders contribute to growth in Singapore, Indonesia, Kenya, Oman and India, members of the National Team work in global committees. AIESEC in Uganda’s work and achievements were recognized by AIESEC International and a milestone was the Regional Excellence Award at International Congress 2010. We encourage you as an Alumnus to reconnect to this network, contribute to developing youth leaders and to rediscover what Impact on society means! |
