Local Committee (LC) Meetings

Local Committee (LC) Meetings are great opportunities to let members enrich their knowledge and enhance personal learning in AIESEC. Since the beginning of 2009 till now, three LC meetings have been held.

March

On 28th March 2009, the PD team has hosted a LC meeting with the Project Workgroup, introducing the concept of LC Education Cycle.

LC Education Cycle

Consistent education and training for employees is the fundamental way to strive for excellence in any organizations. This explains why it is regarded a core component of our talent management systems.

In the past, trainings and education were often randomly organized. However, using a competency-based framework, the nature of training and education has become more strategic. Each step will relate to the visions and goals of AIESEC.

CSR is the Answer

The ultimate goal of AIESEC is to nurture a group of leaders who will be able to exert their positive impact to society. Acting responsibly is the way. This year, the theme of our education cycle is “CSR is the Answer”.

CSR matters. It forms the essence of the community, from businesses to employers, to every one of us. Through an interactive role play, members have managed to stand in others’ shoes, think from a different perspective and experience the core of CSR, showing our care for the society.

Inter-team Competition

To embark on the journey of CSR, Project Workgroup has introduced the Inter-team Competition to ensure members acquire sufficient knowledge about CSR.

April

April came when conferences came to an end and this month's LC meeting enriched members' learning through their peers.

Sharing from International Conferences

AIESEC international conferences gather AIESECers from Growth Networks around the world to share their culture and different perspectives of thinking. They allow members to experience different ways of life abroad. Different sharing sessions have been given by conference delegates, facilitators and committee members.

AfroXLDS
Africa has long been a fascinating place for most members. In Pinky's sharing, members' view of the world has been challenged - Africa is in fact not as distant and unfamiliar as members may think, and it has been transforming greatly at the age of globalization. Pinky has also discussed with members her perception of joining an international conference - cultural understanding does not come from participation alone. It is the activeness that matters.

ITC in Bangladesh
Fion, VP(TM) of session 0809, has shared her experience of being a facilitator in the International Training Congress (ITC) in Bangladesh. She has introduced the lifestyle of Bangladesh which is completely different from that of Hong Kong. Applying her TM knowledge, she has offered useful advice and insights in transforming the LC in Bangladesh. Once again, she has emphasized the importance of spreading impact to others. APXLDS 2009 in Hong Kong
This year, Hong Kong has hosted a large-scale conference in the Asia-Pacific region. Being delegates and Conference Committee (CC) members, some of our LC members shared their very different experience in separated tracks. CC members have recalled their pains and gains in preparing the conference, while delegates have shared their learning that can be applied to different functional areas of the LC.

Issue Learning – Human Rights

Based on the CSR issue learning from the last meeting, the issue of human rights has been raised. Dilemmas on human rights, mainly between Hong Kong and the mainland China have been introduced. Through simulations and Q&A session, members’ awareness of the issue has been raised. Lastly, members have been stimulated to think beyond the present over their responsibility of the issue.

June

Learning cultures does not start abroad but here in Hong Kong. LC meeting in June features interns from the US, Australia and the Netherlands.

Cultural sharing

Josh from Australia, who is now an intern working for UBS, has introduced to LC members the Australian lifestyle. As a Chinese in Australia, he questions the definition of identity. He believes that it is not only the appearance that makes you an Australian, but also one’s beliefs and lifestyle.

Victor, a CEED of MnS team of our LC, comes from the US. He has shared with members the different living environment of the rich and poor, and the US education system. His sharing has drawn our attention to the problem of widening wealth gap and social equality.

Issue Learning – HIV

By investigating the cases of people infected by HIV/AIDS, members have the opportunity to dig into the problem of inequality suffered by HIV patients. The prime culprit is not the disease itself, but the fact that HIV/AIDS patients are being discriminated against, abandoned and isolated from the community. Members have been stimulated to think about how they can pay an effort in their own country.

Sharing of International Trainers Congress (ITC) 2009

Jan, Vice President (Mns) of session 0809 and Andy, Vice President (TM) of session 0910 have been to the International Training Congress (ITC) in Czech Republic. This congress aims to discover ways to facilitate growth and trainings, and how the theories can be applied to the overall organizational direction. Learning cannot turn into knowledge without effective facilitation and an appropriate learning attitude. The culture of question and discussion should be applied to our LC, to collect different ideas and perspectives.

EB sharing

A team cannot perform well without a leader. To show their appreciation and thanks to their respective VPs, each team has prepared a special gift for their leaders.

Finally...
Session 0809 has come to an end. The EB team of session 0809 has undergone a challenging yet rewarding year...Timeline change, team transitions, EB meetings, general meetings, and finally their personal development...

Under the dim light in a cozy circle, Pinky, Jan and Gary shared how they overcame various difficulties and showed their appreciation to the EB members and their respective teams. In tears of sweet and sorrow, they wrapped up their fruitful 1.5-year-EB life and words of encouragement were given to the newly elected EB team.
