A conference organized by AIESEC will take place at the National University of Singapore from December 13-16 2007. AIESEC expects 150 delegates at the event. This year’s conference theme is “L.E.A.D. - Learn. Explore. Achieve. Discover.” The theme centres on developing effective leadership among youth through self-discovery, learning, exploring and achieving. By discovering personal strengths and weaknesses, young people identify areas where they need to improve and embrace learning as an integral part of life. An additional message behind the theme is for young people to be committed to excellence in all that they do. During the conference, companies such as ABN AMRO, SingTel and
Singapore Compact will conduct sessions on topics relevant in today’s world. Issues to be covered
include Corporate Social Responsibility, the Environment, HIV/AIDS and Finance and Sustainability.
Through these sessions, delegates will gain insight into companies’ perspectives and the measures
they adopt to address these issues. With increased awareness about a specific issue and the
corporate world’s approach to address it, youths can identify projects where they could commit
their interest, skills and resources to bring about action in society.
Approximately 70 of the conference delegates will be from Singapore, and the rest
will come from countries including Mexico, New Zealand, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Taiwan.
Interaction between local and overseas students throughout the four-day conference will enable
AIESEC members to strengthen their global network and grow more appreciative of diversity.
"Forward-looking organizations are always on the look-out for
talent. Local and cross-border internships have proven to be highly effective for
organizations to achieve this objective. AIESEC interns truly make a difference by
quickly becoming part of the organization. They are ready to contribute with their 'can-do'
attitude, integrity, community and team spirit, to achieve positive outcomes." said Rose
Wee, Managing Director, Alpha-Maps Consulting (S) Pte Ltd and Board of Advisors, AIESEC Singapore.
Through AIESEC’s activities, undergraduate members have opportunities to gain hands-on experience beyond the classroom and hone soft skills such as communication, marketing and project management. Taking a leadership role in the youth-run organization equips undergraduates with experience in leading an organization, from managing a team to formulating management strategies.
