Alumni Congress and Alumni Association Meeting Held in Rome

Alumni Congress in Rome, Italy

Alumni and AIESEC Members Interaction

AIESEC in Italy and AIESEC Alumni International organized jointly an alumni congress happening parallel to IPM 2009, Rome. The Congress gathered more than 70 alumni from various generations and nationalities. Alumni discussed the current economic crisis, the role of ethics in the business environment and shared stories from their time in AIESEC. The conference featured speakers like: Jean Jacques Grasse (UN FAO), Daniel Truran, Arthur Dahl (EBBF).

The highlight of the event were a couple of common sessions the alumni had with the AIESEC delegates, thus reliving the spirit of the AIESEC conferences they enjoyed once.

As a parallel track to the alumni congress, AIESEC International called for a meeting of the heads of alumni associations. The meeting was attended by representatives of 8 alumni associations (AIESEC Alumni International, AIESEC Alumni Association India, AIESEC Alumni Germany, AIESEC Alumni Belgium, AIESEC Alumni France, Italian Alumni Group, AIESEC Life US, Japanese Alumni Association, Alumni Initiative Indonesia and an individual alumnus, Bernd Thomas). The meeting was the first attempt to bring alumni associations together and to initiate effective communication and cooperation among them. The output of the meeting will be mailed to the alumni associations’ heads.

The World says Recession

AIESEC Answers:   We have a solution. 59 % Growth of Realized Internships in January and February

Once again AIESEC is proving economically compatible supply of talent even in the times of economic downturn. In the time of crisis, the proven short-term and flexible talent supply which the Global Internship program of AIESEC offers to businesses and students seems more than ever a smart choice. Just for the months of January and February, AIESEC globally has realized 1162 internships (compared to 730 for the same period last year).

The astonishing growth of 59% is also coming as a result of more and more AIESEC alumni taking AIESEC interns in their companies.

If you want to know more or take an intern, contact your local AIESEC chapter ( www.aiesec.org / drop down list in the top left corner).

José Francisco Gil-Diaz

AIESEC Mexico Alumnus and Global Alumni Hall of Fame

" Paco, whom  I have known at least 59 years if not more, is dependable , hard working, bright and brilliant, totally committed to his principles, excellent family man, very good friend, but beware of his remarkable sense of humor, fantastic and devastating... ."
- Pedro Luis Pinson (AIESEC Mexico Co-Founder

   Francisco Gil-Diaz

Leading for a positive change - that is the common thread which keeps re-appearing in the storyline of Francisco Gil-Diaz.The change agent characteristics of Francisco were shaping up already in his student years.

During his time in AIESEC he contributed significantly for the founding of two local committees in Mexico - Local Committee Monterrey and Local Committee ITAM, Mexico City. His result –driven approach brought immediate results and the local committees he established grew up to bring up to 40% of the exchange results of the country.  He himself role-modeled the way and was one of the first exchange participants of the new chapters, going to an internship in France in 1964. Fast career advancement secured a good position for Francisco to drive the changes he sought in order to improve the organizations he belonged to and ultimately the welfare of Mexico. With a remarkable breadth of experience in the country's economic and financial affairs, Gil's record includes his position as Chief of Economic Projections in the President's Secretariat, Board Member at the Central Bank of Mexico, Secretary of the  Treasury Department of Mexico, , and Revenue Policy General Director of the Finance Secretariat.  Francisco has played a decisive role over the last 20 years in the evolution of the tax administration of Mexico.  A publication of Financial Times declared him Finance Minister of the Year for the Americas in 2005. For over 35 years Francisco has been teaching in a number of high-profiled universities in Mexico and has delivered a series of research papers and publications.

Throughout his rich career, Francisco has always stayed close in contact with AIESEC and has continuously supported the organization. Currently he is a member of the National Board of Advisors of AIESEC in Mexico and the company he is presiding –TELEFÓNICA MOVISTAR, Mexico-Central America, is a main financial supporter and exchange provided for AIESEC in the country.

Francisco  is just one of 800,000 AIESEC alumni from 60 years of AIESEC’s history.
