Volunteer Abroad with AIESEC

The Global Community Development Programme (GCDP)
encourages cross-cultural positive impact and personal development of participants through working abroad for social and community development projects and issues. A GCDP is an internship that is hosted by an AIESEC entity under a project or a non-AIESEC organization e.g. NGO, organizations or schools in another country. We want the intern to be interested in cross-cultural understanding, personal development and the opportunity to contribute to social changes.

Details and logistics:

  • Duration: 6-8 weeks;
  • No salary provided;
  • Accommodation and food are usually provided (depending on country and issue);
  • Flight ticket, visa, insurance and additional living costs are not covered;
  • 1 day cultural preparation seminar;
  • One-to-one consultancy with an AIESEC buddy;
  • Contract fee: 2500 DKK (500 DKK are refundable when submitting an Internship Report)
NB! When going on an internship, it is necessary to have enough money. AIESEC does not cover travelling, visa and insurance costs.

Who are we looking for?

  • Students and recent graduates (up to 2 years after) aged between 18 and 30 years of age;
  • Students/recent graduates that understand the value of the internship: cross-cultural positive impact and personal development;
  • Students/recent graduates with particular interest in social issues topics;
  • Students/recent graduates that are fluent English (other languages are an advantage);
  • Students/recent graduates willing to take other AIESEC programs (Preferred).

Benefits for participants of GCDP:

  • Cross-cultural experience;
  • Self-development and skill enhancement;
  • Participation in the most cultural learning experience that AIESEC offers;
  • Increasing the social responsibility by participating in projects based on global issues.

The Process

Summer Abroad is a special program that guarantees 100% satisfaction, so we assure our candidates that if they pass the interview, they will get the project of their preference during this summer in one of 4 countries (Brazil, Mauritius, Indonesia or Taiwan).
  1. You need to Sign Up through the link on the front page or at the bottom of this page. -Once you sign up, we will contact you with more information, answer all your questions and invite for the interview.
  2. Before you can attend the interview, you will need to cover a payment of 500 DKK deposit (it will be sent as an invoice to you via email).
  3. Student Review Board - this is a process of interviews on which we ask about your preferences and find out if we can guarantee you an internship or not.

    If we cannot guarantee you the internship - we will give you 500 DKK back and let you know that we cannot meet your expectations.

    If we can guarantee you the internship - the process goes on. Dates for the Student Review Board are 10 and 11 April (you only go one of the days)

  4. Fee invoice - the whole fee for AIESEC Internships are 2000 DKK (plus 500 deposit before the Student Review Board) for which you get :
    - Access to the database for a year, matching your preferences with a project abroad. AIESEC takes care of matching, you just let us know the preference list of your internships. The process of matching you with a project will be done before 1 May so you can book your flight ticket after this date.
    - Outgoing Preperation Seminar - one day conference over the weekend on which you will get a good case practice for the country you are going to work in (shared by candidates who have already been working in this country with AIESEC before) and you will meet a person who is managing the internship in the country for you (you will reach a person virtually over the internet and you will be able to ask questions and learn about their culture). Date for the Outgoing Preparation Seminar is 12 OR 13 May (you will be informed later)
    - Visa process - AIESEC sends you the invitation letter and all the information for the embassy so collecting the visa has never been so easy!
    - Accommodation – Whether the accommodation-fee is covered by the host or not, an AIESEC person in the country you are going to is managing the accommodation in a country so you do not need to worry about it.
  5. Once you are in database, we will proceed with a Matching in April and let you know as soon as possible, so that you can book your air-plane tickets as soon as possible.
  6. You enjoy your internship and experience a life changing time.
  7. After you are done with your internship, we ask you to write the report from your internship (about 2 pages) and then you will get back your deposit of 500 DKK that you paid before the interview.

Frequently Asked Questions:

    So how much am I paying after all?

    - 2000 DKK: 500 DKK (deposit that is refundable) and a nun-refundable fee of 2000 DKK.

    What do you mean by 100% satisfaction?

    - It means that if we cannot get you a match within the internships that were your preference, you will get all your money back. Also if we cannot meet your expectations on the interview, you will get the deposit back too.

    Why is it so inexpensive?

    - We are all volunteers in AIESEC, that means we are not getting paid for the job because we are non-for-profit organization. We still need to generate a minimum income in order to sustain on Universities, so we need to charge something to support our recruitment and promotion, however comparing to other organizations we are extremely cost effective.

    How many candidates can attend internship?

    - It depends on a country, some countries like Mauritius have limited places and it is very important to attend interviews as soon as possible, because the rule is - first in, first gets.
