Story From A MemberBy Mark Kozac, Canadian AIESEC trainee in DenmarkOmada, a Danish software company (www.omada.dk), provided me with constant challenges and increasing levels of responsibility from the first day. After a few weeks of training, my responsibilities increased to conducting my own sales meetings where I spoke about the industry, Omada’s technology, and performed demonstrations of its products. Not having an IT background, I found myself working in the industry very challenging. With a lot of self-studying and help from colleagues, I have been able to aggressively expand my levels of responsibility. I started out making cold-calls and a year later I now manage all customer cases outside of Europe and North America. The second goal of any traineeship is to provide the trainee with a new cultural experience. My experience in Denmark has been incredible. I have felt very welcomed into the Danish culture and way of life. Friends and colleagues are always teaching me about Danish traditions and helping me to integrate into their culture. The AIESEC traineeship program, together with Omada, has taught me a great deal about international business and different cultures. AIESEC introduces you to many different cultures and experiences and prepares you for a career in today’s international business climate. Omada has enabled me to leverage my experiences and put my skill set to work in an international company. Working abroad has provided me with an experience that no textbook ever could. I have learnt more about myself and gained a fair broader approach to life than I could have hoped by staying in Canada. Leaving what you know behind and starting over can seem like an overwhelming challenge, but it is by far the most rewarding thing I have done in my entire life. |
