Latin American Day 2009
The Latin American Day 2009 is being organized by AIESEC at the
University of St. Gallen and focuses on an important topic for Latin America. This year’s
conference is taking place on December, 4
th under the motto “Human Capital – Education and Empowerment”.
Throughout centuries, the Latin American continent has struggled to
outperform other economic regions, which is mainly due to a shortage in necessary investments. One
production factor and investment category frequently neglected is human capital, which is crucial
to economic progress but has not received widespread attention of key decision makers. We aim to
change that. These are the main topics of our event, which we are convinced will be met with great
interest by all participants:
-
State of education and human capital formation in Latin America
-
Development potentials of education investments
-
Relation between access to education and social stratification
-
Brain Drain in Latin America
-
Influence of the “New Left” governments on educational policy
It is our intention to bring together highly motivated students,
brilliant speakers, corporate representatives and influential diplomats in order to ensure a vivid
atmosphere and a fruitful discussion about the perspectives and challenges facing education in
Latin America. To this end we shall hold presentations, both academic and corporate workshops and
conclude with a panel discussion, accompanied by a diverse cultural program.
