ACHIEVEMENTS
Mr. Rafael Barraza was involved
in the founding of AIESEC El Salvador National Committee in 1995.
He helped AIESEC El Salvador in its extension period with support letters, meetings, contacts
and being part of the Board of Advisors.
His help in introducing AIESEC
to the corporate community in El Salvador was valuable in the growth of AIESEC in El Salvador. With
his contacts Mr. Barraza ensured the attendance of 70 companies at a corporate breakfast to promote
AIESEC. He also introduced AIESEC to the World Bank and the people from the Tecnológico de
Monterrey and Thunderbird Universities from Mexico and the USA to initiate cooperation.
He is currently part of Alumni
of AIESEC El Salvador Association since the foundation of the AAA ESAL in 2001.
Mr. Rafael Barraza was the
Manager of Studies and Economic Policy (1996 – 1998) at Central Bank, El Salvador. Later in
1998-1999 he became Vice-president Central Bank of El Salvador and in 1999-2002 Mr. Barraza served
as the President of Central Bank of El Salvador. He participated in the design and implementation
of the Monetary Integration Law that established the USD as legal currency in El Salvador and as
unity of count in the financial system of all the country. This measure increased the number of
jobs in El Salvador, helped SME’s to grow and establish themselves as stable economic supporters,
reducing interests for their foundation and helping people with their loans.
He has also held the positions
of Proprietary Governor of the International Monetary Fund (1999–2002), Alternate Governor of the
World Bank (2001–2002), Alternate Governor of the Interamerican Development Bank (BMI) (2001), and
lternate Governor of the Economical Integration Central American bank (BCIE) (1999–2002).
Mr. Barraza supported the
program “Emprende tu Idea” (Entrepreneurs with ideas), which helps young students develop their
business activities and give them initial investments to start their own business. He has led 2
winning projects of young students as counselor (in 2002).
He was also involved in FUNDEMAS, a CSR NGO associated with IBLF that promote CSR among
corporate bodies in El Salvador (in 2002).
1993-1995 Rafael was a full-time
professor at Escuela Superior de Economía y Negocios responsible for the development of the
Economics studies. He was the director of various research and extension projects financed by
US-AID and INCAE Business School. In 2001-2002 he became the General Principal of Escuela Superior
de Economía y Negocios. He led the formulation of the strategic plan to position in the
international world the most prestigious institution of superior education in business and
economics of El Salvador.
